Description

Morris Cottages comprise a group of ten two-storey cottages arranged in reflected pairs, with a central tunnel passage providing access. The cottages were built using colourwashed rubble stone, with slate roofs. Some roof slates have been replaced, while others have been re-grouted. Numerous chimney stacks are visible, along with rendered weathercourses. Most windows are horned sashes; however, one window on the first floor of number 15 retains small panes, and number 23 has four-pane sashes. Number 23 also features a later small-paned casement window above the passage, while numbers 19 and 21 have modern replacement windows. The ground floor windows have a distinctive cambered voussoir detail. Original boarded doors have been retained at number 15, while the others have been replaced with half-glazed doors—a later recessed door is present at number 21. The left end of the cottages has scribed rendered stone, the right end uses rubble stone, and the rear elevation is colourwashed rubble with mainly modern windows, some lean-tos, and a modern cross range on the left side. The passage is paved with slate flags and is enclosed by whitewashed rubble walls. Numbers 19 and 21, and 25 and 27, have been combined to create single dwellings.
