Description

Ainsley Cottage is an early to mid-18th century house located on Ainsley Lane in Marsden. It is built of hammer-dressed stone with quoins, and has a pitched stone slate roof. A coping runs along the gable at the east end, which is chamfered. The building has moulded footstones and an original chimney stack to the east, retaining evidence of the original fireplace and featuring water tabling. A further chimney was formerly present at the west gable. The south-facing elevation has, on the ground floor, a three-light, a four-light, and a two-light stone mullioned window, all with chamfered and recessed frames. The first floor has a three-light and a four-light stone mullioned window, again with chamfered and recessed frames, and a two-light stone mullioned window which is now blocked and has had its mullion removed. The north elevation features two blocked-off doorways. An east-facing stone outbuilding of a later date is attached to the main building.
