Description
The barn at Berry Greave, built in 1855, is part of a farm terrace and constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a pitched stone slate roof and coped gables. It stands two storeys high.
On the north elevation, there is a large central doorway featuring a semi-circular arched head with a rusticated keystone, voussoirs, and quoins. The keystone displays the initials AH and the date 1855. Flanking the doorway are two small doorways with stone surrounds and tie-stones, along with a four-light stone mullioned window and a later single light window. High up, there are two large former openings that have been blocked, each with stone surrounds and semi-circular arched heads with rusticated voussoirs and keystones. Above the central doorway, there is a small light with a stone surround and a semi-circular head, also featuring a pronounced keystone. Additionally, there are two blocked two-light stone mullioned windows.
The south elevation mirrors the north, with one ground floor entrance that is partially blocked and two ground floor lights that are also blocked. The west gable includes two slender vents with deep lintels and false arches.
