Description
This barn, located to the north of White Hull, dates from the mid-18th century, with an addition made in 1855. The earlier section is constructed of coursed rubble, featuring quoins and a rough millstone grit footstone, while the later part is made of hammer-dressed stone. The roof is pitched and covered with stone slate, with the older section being lower than the newer addition.
On the southeast elevation of the later part, there is a large central doorway with a lintel that bears the inscription "Rebuilt 1855." To the south of this doorway is a smaller entrance, which has large stone surrounds and tie-stones, along with a reset carved lintel that reads "1670 IWITRWISSW 5674," with the date referring to the Julian calendar. The earlier part of the barn also features a doorway with a shaped lintel.
