Stable Range To West Of Fixby Hall

The stable range to the west of Fixby Hall dates from the late 18th century and is constructed of sandstone with a hipped roof covered in stone slates. It is two stories high and features an eaves cornice along with a continuous plain impost band at the ground floor level. The building has nine ranges of sash windows, which include contemporary glazing bars; the windows on the ground floor are arched. The central three bays project forward and are topped with a crowning pediment. The central bay contains a round-arched yard entrance framed by moulded voussoirs. Most windows have plain raised surrounds, except for numbers 2, 5, and 8, which feature moulded surrounds on both floors, with concentric relieving arches above the ground floor windows of numbers 2 and 8. At each end of the building, there are one-story extensions that have cornices with ball finials and one range of sash windows with glazing bars in plain surrounds. Inside, the stable range includes moulded wooden embrasures around the windows, a blind arcade behind the stalls, and a plaster ceiling adorned with a cornice and moulded roundels.
