Description
The stable block to the east of Forcett Hall is a late 18th-century structure built from ashlar sandstone with Westmorland slate roofs. It has a U-shaped plan, featuring a two-storey central range flanked by single-storey wings at the rear. The main block consists of three bays on each side, with the central three bays slightly projecting and topped with a pediment. There is a plinth at the base, and a central round-arched carriageway. The other bays create the appearance of a ground-floor rounded arcade, with recessed stonework and round-arched sash windows with glazing bars in each bay, accompanied by a continuous impost band. The first floor features six-pane sash windows beneath a cornice, and the roof is hipped. There are corniced stacks located between the fourth and fifth, and sixth and seventh bays.
Inside the carriageway, there are doorways with architraves, including one on the right that has a board stable door. The inner elevation of the left rear range includes three 20th-century garage doors, a sash window with glazing bars, and a door with six fielded panels below a six-pane overlight, both featuring wedge lintels. There is also a pump housed in a wooden box with a spout on the left and a handle on the right side, along with a 20th-century truck opening. The roof of this range is hipped to the right, with stacks positioned at the center and near the hip.
The inner elevation of the right rear range shows a segmental-arched opening, six stable doors below six-pane overlights, and a blind window located between the second and third stable doors, all with wedge lintels and a cornice above. The roof here is hipped to the left. Further to the left, there is a Welsh slate roof supported by an Ionic column, forming a lean-to log store against the garden wall, which ends in a gate pier with banded rustication. The opposite gate pier is attached to a wall that connects to Forcett Hall.
