Description
The Dovecote, located at Forcett Park, dates from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed from coursed sandstone, brick, Westmorland slate, wood, and lead, featuring a hexagonal plan with two stages. The lower stage has round-arched openings on each side, positioned between piers at the corners, which have bases and imposts. There is a band running around this stage. The upper stage contains blind round-arched openings with a sill band, and an impost band that extends across the panels. The spaces above the impost band are lunette-shaped, open on the north and south sides, while the other sides are blind. A moulded cornice crowns the structure, topped by a hipped roof. The dovecote has a wooden colonnaded cupola with a lead conical roof and a weather-vane, which was being replaced at the time of the last survey. Inside, the dovecote features a brick lining with nest-boxes positioned above the arcade.
