Description

North Gateway is a pair of gates and gate piers located at Forcett Park, dating from the early 18th century for the piers and the 19th century for the gates. The gate piers are likely the work of Daniel Garrett for Richard Shuttleworth. They are made of ashlar sandstone and consist of two square piers on plain bases, featuring banded rustication on the front and back with flat sides. Each pier has an abacus, a moulded cornice, and a pyramidal top. The gates are constructed of round bars and include anthemion finials on the main bars and intermediate lower bars. Tapering beaded clasps have been added halfway up the upper bars, although many of these are damaged or missing.
