Description

The icehouse located south-west of the stable courtyard at Fixby Hall dates back to 1796. It is constructed externally of hammer-dressed stone and features a door with a monolithic lintel. Inside, the structure is made of red brick and includes a tunnel-vaulted passage that leads to a circular ice-house with a domical vault, which is approximately 15 feet in diameter and quite deep. The building originally had a datestone indicating the year 1796.
