Description
The First and Second World War Memorial in Crow Nest Park was built in 1924, with later additions to the inscription and bronze plaques commemorating those who fell in the Second World War. It features a large, cylindrical, two-stage ashlar tower, supported by eight giant antae. The upper tier has a deep frieze with a blocking course, inscribed with the names of battles from the First World War. At the top, there is an ashlar tripod with a central column on a round, stepped podium. The base of the memorial is stepped and includes a single iron gateway leading into a domed chamber. Between the pilasters, there are three bronze plaques listing the names of the fallen. One face of the memorial displays the main inscription along with the added inscription for the Second World War. The large round base is surrounded by two later raised walls that also feature bronze plaques dedicated to those who fell in the Second World War.
