2/23 1st & 2nd World War Memorial in Crow Nest Park, 100 yards south of Boothroyd Gate

1st World War Memorial. 1924 with addition to inscription and added plaques to commemorate those who fell in 2nd World War. Large, cylindrical, 2-stage ashlar tower, with eight giant antae which in the open, upper tier support a deep frieze with blocking course with dies between which are inscribed the names of 1st World War battles. The upper tier contains an ashlar tripod with central column on round, stepped podium. The base is stepped and has a single iron gateway, into a domed chamber. Between the pilasters are 3 bronze plaques with the names of those who fell. One face contains the memorial inscription and the added 2nd World War inscription. The large round base has 2 later raised walls with bronze plaques to those who fell in the 2nd war.
