Description
The gatepiers and gates to Dewsbury Cemetery were built in 1859 and designed by Jeremiah Marriott & Son. They are made of ashlar stone and cast iron. The structure features a pair of large octagonal stone piers, each with a single gabled buttress on the main face. These piers have moulded double plinths and octagonal stone spires topped with finials. On either side of the main gates, there are single pedestrian gates with square piers and buttresses at the front and back, which also have moulded double plinths and banded pyramidal caps with lucarnes and finials. The gates are made of cast iron and are designed in the Gothic Revival style. This structure is part of a cohesive group with other buildings listed at Dewsbury Cemetery.
