Description
The North Chapel (Non-Conformist) at Dewsbury Cemetery is a cemetery chapel built in 1859, designed by Jeremiah Marriott & Son. It is constructed of ashlar stone with ashlar dressings and features a graduated slate roof adorned with coped gables, cross finials, and ornate ridge tiles. The chapel has a rock-faced chamfered plinth, a moulded cill band, and diagonal buttresses with set-offs. It has a cruciform plan and is a single storey.
The eastern entrance front includes a projecting gabled porch with a pointed arch doorway that has a moulded surround with shafts and a hood mould. Above the doorway is a small deeply chamfered triangular opening featuring a cusped circular window with a hood mould. On either side of the porch are single lancet windows. The gabled north and south fronts each have a single three-light pointed arched window with rectilinear tracery and a hood mould. At the rear, a projecting gabled wing contains a single two-light pointed arch window with reticulated tracery and a tall octagonal stone stack. This chapel is part of a significant group of listed buildings at Dewsbury Cemetery.
