Description

Holywell Green Farm House and Barn is a house with an attached barn, dating from the mid-17th century and early 19th century. The building is constructed of thin coursed rubble stone and features a stone slate roof. It has a three-room, through-passage plan and stands two storeys high. The main entrance, which is from the 17th century, includes a single-storey porch with a lean-to roof, adjacent to No. 2 Northgate. To the left of the entrance is a fire-window and a double chamfered mullioned window with four lights, although two of the mullions have been removed. There is also a 19th-century doorway with monolithic jambs and a four-light double chamfered mullioned window. Above this, there are two 19th-century four-light mullioned windows, with the central mullion removed.

The barn, made of thin coursed stone with dressed details, features a coped gable with kneelers. It has a central semi-circular arch-headed entrance with a projecting keystone, flanked by doorways that also have monolithic jambs, with arch-headed ventilators above. The interior of the barn consists of three bays with a queen-strut roof and one softwood fish-bone king-post truss. The adjacent house, No. 2 Northgate, has a reset doorway with a dated lintel from 1626, which may indicate the date of that house.
