Description
This structure is one half of the former township stocks, likely from the 18th century, which has been re-used as a guide post in its current location during the late 19th century. It is a monolith with four dressed faces. The south face features a deep groove for wooden keepers for the stocks. The east face is inscribed with "TO HAWORTH," accompanied by a hand pointing to the right. At the base, there is a copper tablet engraved with the following text: "STOCKS ORIGINALLY IN TOWNGATE. REMOVED IN 19TH CENTURY TO A SITE IN FRONT OF PRESENT STOCKS VILLAS FINALLY TAKEN DOWN IN 1875."
