Description

This is a barn with a cottage, dated 1789, located approximately 27 metres northwest of Cooper House in Luddenden. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone and features a stone slate roof. It has two storeys with an attic and consists of three bays, with the cottage situated in the right bay. The structure has quoins and flat-faced mullion windows.

There is a central cart-entry with quoins and a massive lintel, above which is a stone featuring two arched pigeon-holes, a ledge, and an incised date. To the left of the cart-entry, there is a mistal door with a plain stone surround. The right bay, which contains the cottage, has a boarded door in a plain stone surround next to a four-light window. On the first floor, there are a two-light window and a four-light window. The building has plain gutter brackets and evidence of a removed stack on the right gable.

At the rear, there is a blocked opposing cart-entry with a two-light window above it. The cottage has a four-light and a two-light window on each floor, and the left return features slit vents. The right return includes a doorway at first-floor level leading onto the road, with a board taking-in door flanked by two-light chamfered mullion windows. Inside, the barn has a loft in the left bay and braced queen-post trusses.
