Description
Hollin Bar Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated "W T" and built in 1849, designed in the style of the early 18th century, with a plan reminiscent of the 17th century featuring a through-passage. The building is constructed of coursed dressed stone and has a stone slate roof. It stands two storeys tall and consists of three bays.
On the south front, the first bay features a 6-light window, where two of the right-hand lights were formerly a doorway, and a 5-light window above it. To the right, there is a chamfered quoined doorway with a deep Tudor-arched lintel and sunk spandrels. The second bay has a 6-light window on each floor, with a dated plaque to the right of the first-floor window. The third bay contains a 5-light window on each floor. The building has coping, with end stacks and a ridge stack to the right of the door, all featuring chamfered capstones.
At the rear, the first bay has a 5-light window on each floor. The second bay has a chamfered quoined doorway, which is masked by a 20th-century gabled outshut that includes an inserted 1-light window to the left and a 5-light window above. The third bay has an added outshut with a 5-light window above.
Inside, the fireplace in the left-hand room has a deep lintel and a chamfered ledge, while the fireplace in the right-hand room also features a deep lintel, which is chamfered and has a rounded corner to the soffit.
