Description
Hollins Gate is a house and cottage, now combined into one, dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of coursed dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and three bays, with the left bay built into the hillside, creating a single-storey cottage at first-floor level. The flat-faced mullion windows have oversailing lintels and cills.
In the left bay, there is a doorway with tie-stones located to the right of a three-light window. The central bay contains a doorway, which has been converted into a two-light window, to the left of a four-light window, with a similar window above. The right bay features a door on the right side, which is obscured by a gabled single-storey addition from around 1980, and a four-light window to the left on both floors. A ridge stack is positioned edge-on between the second and third bays.
At the rear, the central bay has a first-floor door and two single-light windows to the right on the first floor. The right return includes a three-light window to the right, with three single-light windows above. Inside, there are stone fireplaces with deep lintels in the central and right-hand rooms. A garage with a room above was added to the left end at a higher level around 1980, but this is not of special interest.
