Description

This is a former fustian warehouse or workshop, dating from the early 19th century. It is located in Machpelah Yard, Hebden Bridge. The building is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with dressed quoins, and has a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high. At ground floor level, there are two doorways leading to a former wash-house, which incorporates a well and a large stone trough built into the wall. A separate room contains a hay-cratch, remnants of a former stable. The first floor has a separate entrance in the return wall, accessed by a flight of stone stairs. To the front, there are four bays of sash windows, each with a continuous sill band and retaining their original 16-paned sashes. A tall brick stack is located at the rear.
