Description
A row of four single-cell cottages dating from circa 1820, located on Smithwell Lane in Heptonstall. The cottages are constructed of watershot masonry and have stone slate roofs. They are situated higher than the road level, with each approached by a flight of three stone steps leading to a flagged landing with cast iron railings. Each cottage features a doorway with tie-stone jambs to the right of a three-light, flat-faced mullioned window with a projecting sill. The first floor has a four-light window. Cottage number 22 has a coped gable with kneelers and a stack; the other cottages have stacks to the ridge. Two-light windows are found to the rear of each cottage.
