Description

Star Chamber Farmhouse and the attached barn to the west possibly date from the late 16th century but mainly feature early 19th-century details. The building is constructed of large dressed stone and has a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high with two small cells in the house, which faces the road. The gables are coped with kneelers that have a 17th-century character, and there are quoins at the corners.

The barn to the left has a segmental arched doorway with a chamfered surround. To the right of this doorway is a mistal doorway next to the entrance to the house, which features tie-stone jambs. The house has flat-faced mullioned windows with two and three lights; one of these windows has a chamfered surround. The right-hand return wall includes a stepped flat-faced mullioned window in the gable with four over eight lights.

At the rear, there is a 19th-century outshut to the left with a catslide roof, which contains a doorway to the left of a single window. Above, there is a two-light window with a single window featuring a chamfered surround. To the left of the segmental arched cart entry is a mistal doorway with a basket-arched lintel. The building has coped gables and features two stacks on the ridge and one additional stack on the rear outshut.

Inside, there is a stone heck screen and a single skin wall with mason's marks that divides the two rooms. This wall has a long reused beam and another beam on the first floor. Due to their slight curve and taper, these beams may be reused cruck blades.
