Haughcroft Head

This is a house, originally built in the early 18th century, now divided into two separate dwellings. It is located on the north side of Elland Road, in Greetland. The house is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof, featuring coped gables and kneelers. The building has a square layout and a central chimney stack running along the ridge. The front facade has six bays. The main doorway is located in the right-hand bay and has a square lintel with a chamfered surround, inscribed with "RDF 1705". The two outer bays each contain cross windows with chamfered reveals, where the mullions and transoms have been removed. One window has been altered to create another doorway, which is now blocked. The first floor has six two-light windows, also without transoms and with the mullions removed. A continuous hoodmould runs over the ground-floor windows, rising to form a gable-shaped feature above the main entrance, suggesting a potential porch was originally intended. Attached to the east gable is an outshut dating from the early 18th century, which was later refronted in the 19th century. This section is built of coursed rubble and has windows with flush mullions. The return wall on the right side has an eight-light mullioned window with a chamfered surround, retaining only the central mullion. This outshut was likely a single room used for cloth production and originally had its own separate entrance at the rear. The rear of the house has mullioned windows of five, two, and four lights on the ground floor, with similar windows above, some of which have had their mullions removed. A portion of the rear wall has been rendered.
