Description
Jagger Green Hall, comprising numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4, is a three-room house with a kitchen wing behind, situated on Jagger Green Lane in Elland. The main house dates to the late 17th century, with additions from the 18th century. The building is constructed of thin, hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The south front has four bays. The third bay features a square-headed doorway with moulded jambs. Double-chamfered mullioned windows with transoms flank the doorway; the second bay contains a fourteen-light window and a four-light cross-fire window, while the fourth bay has a twelve-light window (with most mullions removed). A cavetto-moulded string course runs continuously above the windows. The first floor has double-chamfered mullioned windows of six, two, and six lights (with three mullions removed). The first bay is a late 18th-century addition, characterised by quoins, a coped gable with kneelers, two large rectangular sash windows with projecting sides, a wide string band, and two smaller windows above, along with moulded gutter brackets. A large centrally placed stack rises from the ridge of the main range, and the end gable is coped. A four-light, double-chamfered stepped mullion window is set into the gable, which also has ashlar quoins. The string course continues around the entire building. A two-storey porch, dated 1703 'TDM' (Thomas Denton), is located on the rear wing, constructed of finely dressed stone and featuring a two-light arch-headed mullioned window at first floor, a coped gable, kneelers, and a finial to the apex. The rear wing also has quoins and a coped gable with kneelers, incorporating a double-chamfered mullioned and transomed window of twelve lights, with a six-light window above. The interior has not been inspected but is reported to contain features of interest.
