Description

Inglenook is a house built in the last quarter of the 17th century, constructed from hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. It has a T-plan layout, featuring a two-room front and a rear kitchen wing with kneelers, and stands two storeys tall. An attached single-storey barn has been converted into a living room.

The front of the house has ground floor windows with chamfered mullions, consisting of two lights and six lights, separated by a single-storey gabled porch that includes the original six-panelled door. A projecting slate string-course rises over the porch, indicating a steeper roof pitch than currently exists, and continues over the windows. Above the ground floor, there are additional chamfered mullioned windows with four lights and six lights. The house has internal stacks located at the end walls.

The rear wing is made of coursed rubble and features a chamfered mullioned window with four lights, although two mullions have been removed, along with a three-light window above it. The right-hand return wall includes an 18th-century mullioned window with four lights on the first floor. A chimney stack is positioned on the ridge where the two ranges meet.

Inside, there is a depressed Tudor arch-headed fireplace with a chamfered surround. The adjoining barn, which dates to the early 19th century, is rendered and has revealed quoins, along with a king strut roof.
