Description
Tinker Hey Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse situated on North Dean Road, Elland. It is built of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The original plan comprised two rooms, with the main entrance originally at the rear. The front elevation features quoins and a lean-to outshut. A 19th-century doorway has been inserted to the left of two double-chamfered mullioned windows of four lights, each with a hood mould with straight returns. One window has had two mullions removed. A string course with a cavetto moulding runs along the front, below two further double-chamfered mullioned windows of four lights, also with hood moulds, on the first floor.
Attached to the farmhouse is a lower cottage, likely dating to the early 18th century. It has a mullioned window of four lights with square reveals on both ground and first floors. The interior of this cottage is open to the roof, revealing timbered post and truss construction with a queen-strut roof and a diagonally set ridge. An internal stack contains a fireplace with a four-centred arch and chamfered jambs.
A rear kitchen wing, added in the late 18th century, creates an L-shaped plan. This wing features a three-light flush flat-faced mullion window with 10-pane glazing bars to the ground floor, and a corresponding four-light mullioned window above. Quoined angles are visible on this wing, as is an internal ridge stack to the gable.
