Description
Copley Bridge Toll House is a toll bridge house that has been converted into a workshop and garage. It was built in the early 19th century and features hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof and stone ridges. The building has an elongated octagonal shape and is a single storey with a hipped roof and a central stack placed diagonally. It has scalloped eaves boards and a window on each face, which originally had Gothic glazing. The face that faces the road has a shallow stone hood that once sheltered the toll board, which is now said to be loose inside the building. This toll board is dated 1833 and bears the initials of B. W. Kennett-Dawson, the owner of the surrounding estate. Copley Bridge Bar is one of the 15 toll bridges that still exist in North-East England.
