Description
A pair of late 18th-century weavers' cottages are located on Martin Green Lane, Elland. The cottages are built of thin, hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof, featuring internal gabled stacks at each end. They are three storeys high, with doorways centrally positioned, sharing a common large stone jamb. Each cottage has a four-light flat-faced mullioned window on the ground and first floors, plus a single light window above the doorways. The third storey has a five-light window at each end, originally with six solid lights between. It is believed this upper storey was originally a weaving loft, containing sixteen lights. The rear elevation retains a similar window arrangement; the ground floor windows have been altered, but two four-light mullioned windows remain intact on the first floor, and two four-light mullioned windows are present on the third storey. One of the windows on the third floor was filled in, altering a previously three-light window to that third floor weaving room. A large taking-in door to the third floor has also been filled in.
