Description
Ripponden Congregational Church and Sunday School, built in 1869, is constructed from rock-faced stone and features a slate roof with tiled ridges. The main church building is oriented north-south and includes a gabled transept at the ritual east end, with a small hipped-roofed vestry located beyond. At the ritual west end, there is a narthex that has a projecting porch beneath a bell turret, which is broached to an octagon and topped with a stone pyramidal roof. The church is designed in an early French Gothic style, with windows featuring two pointed lights, while the transept has three lights separated by colonnettes. There are unmoulded lancet bell-openings and a rose window at the ritual west end. The narthex is formed by a lean-to roof supported by a low arcade on coupled shafts. The porch expands on one side into a small apse with a half conical roof. Attached to the ritual east end is the Sunday School, which has a separate doorway next to the vestry and features a gabled hipped roof that is interrupted by a half dormer with a two-light pointed window.
