Description

Birkby Baptist Church, built around 1900, is constructed of hammer-dressed stone and features a low-pitched slate roof with overhanging eaves. The church has a hall plan and is supported by broad tapering buttresses. It includes flat-topped dormers with wooden tracery and an undercroft. There is a transept and a south-west porch with a hipped roof. A low crenellated tower is located at the north-west angle, adorned with gargoyles, a pyramidal roof, and a tall wooden finial. On the north side, there is a two-storey minister's house with canted bays and crenellated parapets. The entrance door is set in a moulded arch with gable arcs. The window tracery reflects early 16th-century styles, with some art nouveau flourishes visible in the east and west windows.
