Description
The Saltaire Congregational Church War Memorial Obelisk is a Bolton Wood stone structure erected in the grounds of the United Reformed Church, located to the south-east of the church building and near several other listed buildings. The obelisk, square in plan, rises approximately 5 metres from a plinth and two-stepped base. A bronze plaque, topped with a Latin cross encircled by a wreath, is affixed to the front face of the obelisk. The plaque carries a raised inscription commemorating the men of 1914-1918 who died in the Great War and lists 25 names. A dedication, "GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS," is inscribed in raised lettering on the front face of the plinth.
