Description
The First Church of Christ Scientist is a substantial villa built around 1830-1840, originally designed as a semi-detached property, although the other half has since been rebuilt, resulting in a site that is now quite constrained. The building stands two storeys tall and is constructed from painted sandstone ashlar. It features quoin pilasters, a plinth, a frieze, a moulded cornice, and a blocking course. The roof is half hipped and covered with slate. The front facade has three bays, with outer windows that are tripartite, flanking a central first-floor window that is framed with an architrave surround and consoles above. Below this is a broad Greek Doric porch, and the doorway is also framed with an eared architrave surround.
