Description
Fountain Hall, built around 1840-1850, was originally the Friends Meeting House. It features a tall two-storey front made of sandstone ashlar with prominent classical details. The building has chamfered rusticated quoins, a plinth, a first-floor sill band, and a bed mould with modillion brackets that support a projecting cornice. The parapet has coping that returns to the sides.
There are five windows, with three grouped in the center on the first floor, framed by eared architrave surrounds. The outer ground floor windows have cornices supported by consoles. Below the central group of three windows is a large tetrastyle Roman Doric portico in antis, with a flight of steps leading up to a doorway that has archivolt arches and pilasters. A modern canopy has been added to the portico entablature. To the right, there is a single-storey wing with similar architectural details.
