147, 149 AND 151, SUNBRIDGE ROAD BD1

Nos 147, 149, and 151 on Sunbridge Road, built around 1905-1910, is a large block of two showroom/warehouses with offices. The building appears to have a steel frame, at least for the front elevation. It features sandstone "brick" faced giant pilasters that create a giant arcade on the first and second floors. The arches and spandrels are made of rock-faced stonework, including ironstone, and there is rock-faced banding throughout No 149. The corners are splayed, and there are balustraded parapets. The ground floor of No 147 has polished granite columns that divide the window bays. This front retains its original steel-framed fenestration and dividing floor panels, although the glazing has been altered in No 149, which also has mosaic facing on the floor panels. No 149 features a large columned portal with a pediment.
