Description

A warehouse and office building of around 1880, located on Sunbridge Road. The building is a long range, two and a half storeys high at the front and three storeys high at the rear. It is constructed from high-quality sandstone, designed to resemble brick, with ashlar stone detailing. The façade features twenty-three closely spaced window bays and a splayed corner facing south. A rock-faced basement is partially visible. Pilaster strips emphasise the corners of the structure. A moulded cornice with bracket detailing runs along the top, surmounted by a parapet featuring a large stone carved name panel in the centre and a ram’s head crest above. The narrow window bays give the impression of a pilastrade. The window heads are chamfered, with slightly curved corners. The doorways at each end of the elevation are flanked by large console brackets supporting aediculed lights with enriched scrolled pediments at the upper ground floor level. The long front façade contributes significantly to the character of Sunbridge Road.
