Description

These are a pair of early 18th-century cottages located on Toftshaw Lane, near Bierley. Originally built with deeply coursed hammer-dressed stone, the cottages now have a stone slate roof with hollow chamfered gable copings. The front facades have been significantly altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. At the rear, each cottage features a four-light double chamfered window on each floor, although two mullions have been removed from each window. The gable entrance appears to have an arched lintel and chamfered reveals, though it is partly obscured.
