Description

Dated 1876, the premises occupied by J S Jonas Ltd stand on a corner site with Burnett Street and form part of the “Little Germany” precinct. Originally built as a Sunday School, the building is two storeys high and constructed of sandstone “brick.” It features a plinth and sill bands. The seven-bay front projects slightly in the centre three bays, which are accentuated by a pedimental gable. A large, triple-arched window is centrally positioned, flanked by two-light windows. A tall, corniced doorway is complemented by flanking windows. The side bays incorporate round-headed windows and a flush impost band. The return to Burnett Street includes three-bay wings that flank a recessed centre. First-floor windows have reveals carried below the sills to the sill band, forming apron panels. The building is finished with a moulded stone eaves cornice.
