Description
The North Gatehouse to Bowling Mills Combing Company, located on the north side of Bowling Old Lane at the junction with Manchester Road, dates from around 1860 to 1870. This two-storey gatehouse features classical details and is constructed of ashlar stone. It has a semi-circular archway and is topped with a pierced stone domed cupola. The building exhibits good detailing for its period, and it is possibly the work of the architectural firm Lockwood and Mawson.
