Description
Annesley Methodist Church, built in 1868, is designed in a simplified Early English Gothic style with some decorated features. The church features a short high nave, aisles, and a very shallow chancel, along with a north-west corner tower. It is constructed from dressed sandstone "brick" with ashlar dressings. The shallow aisles have gables over the windows that include plate tracery, and there are spherical triangle clerestory windows. The large high-set west window contains some Decorated tracery. The north-west tower is characterized by shallow corner buttresses, openings in the bell stage that are decorated, gargoyles at the corners of a quatrefoil panelled parapet, and a broached stone spire with lucarnes. The church significantly enhances the street scene with its prominent tower.
