Description
No. 68 on Little Horton Lane is a Jacobeathan villa built around 1850, likely a former rectory, and is a unique example of this style in the predominantly Italianate architecture of Bradford from that period. The building is two stories tall and constructed from dressed sandstone that resembles brick, with ashlar dressings. It features flanking gables and a narrow central section, along with a weathered plinth and chamfered corners on the ground floor. The gables are adorned with saddlestones and kneelers, topped with openwork finials, and there are plaques displaying evangelistic symbols at the attic level. The steep slate roof is complemented by chimneys that have miniature crenellations. The windows have mullioned and transomed designs with four-centred heads, and those on the ground floor are fitted with dropped drip moulds on diamond stops that continue as a string course to the buttressed porch. This string course rises as a drip mould over the doorway, which features a double chamfer reveal and delicately undercut carvings in the spandrels of the four-centred arch. The entrance door is a studded chamfered muntin type. At the rear, there is a gabled hall that was added around 1870-1880, featuring plate tracery windows.
