Description

Nos. 1 and 3, Trinity Road date from around 1855-60 and are a pair of town houses featuring Italianate detailing. They are constructed from sandstone "brick" with ashlar dressings. The houses are two storeys and have a basement, with a platband to the first floor, a bed mould to the frieze, and a modillion bracket eaves cornice. The roof is slate-covered and has corniced chimneys. Each front has two windows. The first-floor sash windows have reveals carved down to the platband. Broad, canted bay windows extend from the basement to the ground floor, with rounded corners to the sash lights, cornices, and blocking courses. Flights of steps lead up to the doorways, which have six-panel doors set in pilastered reveals, and shallow segmental fanlights. Flanking strips feature a broken entablature capping, supporting segmental pediments; the tympanums have central paterae with deeply undercut scrolled supports. The buildings are included in the listing for their contribution to group value.
