Description

This is a former village school, now used as a community hall. It dates from 1821, and may incorporate a late 18th-century building, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and has slate roofs.

It is a single-storey building in a roughly L-shaped layout, with four windows on one side and three windows on the other. The higher block on the right has quoins, coped gables with kneelers, and two coped stone gable stacks. The front of this block features a central three-light cross mullioned window with glazing bars, flanked by single two-light windows of the same style, all with stone flush mullions. The right gable has a single-light transomed window with glazing bars. The lower left range has a single gable stack and four two-light glazing bar casements with stone flush mullions. A plank door with a stone lintel is positioned to the right of the casements, and a datestone is set above the door, inscribed "Erected by public subscription 1821". The left return side has six 20th-century metal framed casements, and a door is located to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
