Description

The Former Wadsley School Clubhouse is a building located on Worrall Road in Wadsley, Sheffield. It was constructed in 1838 and has undergone late 19th century and early 20th century additions. The structure is made of squared dressed stone with ashlar dressings and features slate roofs with various chimneys.

The exterior includes a plinth and coped gables with kneelers. Some windows are boarded up. The building is a mix of single and two-storey sections, with the main schoolroom being single-storey and featuring two sets of four windows. The front gable is topped with a gabled bellcote that has a lancet opening. There is a central doorway with a label mould, flanked by stone mullioned cross casements. Above the door is a square panel with a relief of an inscribed book, and above that is a central single lancet window. The rear gable has a coped chimney stack.

On the left side, there are three stone mullioned cross casements, and to the left, a through-eaves gabled dormer with a similar three-light window. The right side features a gabled wing with a boarded window below and a slit light above. In the return angle, there is a lean-to projection with a single window. To the right, a higher wing has a steep pitched roof and a boarded window on each floor.

At the rear, there is a late 19th-century cross-wing. The facing gable has a single light boarded window and below it, a three-light stone mullioned cross casement, flanked on the right by a chamfered doorway with a label mould. The left return has a dormer with a loft door and a window below it, along with an altered window to the left and two stone mullioned cross casements to the right. The right return angle has a flat-roofed addition with a door to the right and three-light and two-light stone mullioned windows to the left. The interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value.
