Description

SEATON CHURCH LANE SP 9098-9198 10/128 No 5. GV II

Former school and school-master's house, now house. 1858 with minor alterations of 1872 (Kelly's). Coursed limestone rubble with limestone dressings, Collyweston slate roof and ashlar chimneys. T-plan, with school-master's house to left and gabled schoolroom projecting to right. School-master's house is of 1 1/2 storeys and 2 bays. Each bay has a wooden ground floor window of 3 arched lights with a relieving arch above, and a 2-light wooden casement in a gabled semi-dormer. To centre are an arched 4-panelled door, and a smaller 2-light casement below the eaves. Gable end of schoolroom has triple lancet stone window with taller central light and arched surround. Above are a small quatrefoil window and a tall gabled bellcote. All gables have shaped kneelers. Right side of schoolroom has gabled porch with board door in chamfered stone arch, and 2-light side window with shaped arches. Remainder of right side altered C20 to incorporate fenestration and inserted attic storey for conversion to house. Included for group value.
