Description

SEATON MAIN STREET SP 9098-9198 10/132 10.11.55 No 17 (formerly listed as House 60 yds S of Sparrows' Hall). GV II

House, part formerly a bakery, with attached stable range. C17, with later plaque dated CTC 1760 below chimney in gable end. Some C20 alterations. Coursed ironstone rubble, slate roof on slightlyraised eaves, coped gables. Ashlar chimney to right gable, rebuilt stone chimney between right bays, chimney missing from left gable end. At right-angles to road. 2 storeys with later attic, 3 bays. 3-light windows with ovolo-moulded mullions of Ketton limestone; 2 C20 single lights inserted into first floor between left bays; C20 paired attic casements to right bays in small raking semi-formers. Between left bays are a C20 board door and a blocked doorway, both with wooden lintels. Right bay has a small lean-to to front, and 3-light mullion window to ground floor of gable end. One blocked 2-light stone mullion window to rear of left bay. Attached to far end of house is a C19 stable range with corrugated asbestos roof, 2 stable doors with segmental stone arches, loft door between, and vehicle entry with wooden lintel to right. Interior: centre bay has stone fireplace with 4-centred arch and moulded cornice; moulded rectangular stone fireplace surround in right bay.
