Description

The Rose and Crown Public House, along with its attached boundary wall, is a building that originally consisted of four houses. It dates from the mid and late 18th century and early 19th century, with later alterations made in the mid and late 19th century and 20th century. The structure is made of coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings, topped with slate and stone slate roofs and various chimney stacks. It stands two storeys high and has an L-shaped plan with a front range featuring two coped stone gable stacks.

On each floor, there are two plain sash windows, and the central entrance is a 20th-century door with a wooden surround. The ground floor openings are topped with stone lintels. To the left of the public house, there is a stone boundary wall with stepped coping, a canted corner, and a wooden gate to the right. The rear range includes a mid-18th-century block with coped gables, kneelers, and a central coped stone stack. This section also has two storeys and a two-window range of 20th-century three-light wooden framed casements on each floor, all featuring flush stone surrounds. To the left, there is a door with a stone lintel, and to the right, a lower 18th-century block with two storeys and a three-window range of 20th-century two-light casements. The central door is flanked by single windows, all with stone lintels. The interior was refitted in the mid and late 20th century.
