Description

The New Mill Building at Sharrow Mills is a snuff mill constructed around 1880, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The building is made of brick with stone dressings and features hipped roofs covered in plain tiles and Welsh slate. It has a plinth and dentilled eaves, and consists of one and three storeys with a total of 11 by 6 windows, which have segmental heads.

At the south end, there are two adjoining three-storey blocks, each with two cast-iron glazing bar windows on every floor. The east end has a double door with a glazing bar overlight replacing the lower left window. The rear side features plain sash windows and a door to the left. To the north, there are two single-storey ranges; the west range has small buttresses and two plain sash windows, along with a door that has an overlight. The north end has three plain sash windows. The east range includes a former engine house with three cast-iron glazing bar casements. The east side has a single window on the left and an attached former boiler house on the right, which features a late 20th-century garage door under a wooden lintel, a six-light casement, and a board door below it.

Inside, the building contains two double ranks of pestle and mortar snuff mills, along with rotating drum sieving and mixing machinery from around 1880. This machinery is complete and still in use.
