SK3385NE ECCLESALL ROAD 784-1/36/284 (South side (off)) New mill building at Sharrow Mills

GV II

Snuff mill. c1880, with late C20 alterations. Brick with stone dressings and hipped plain tile and Welsh slate roofs. Plinth, dentilled eaves. Single and 3 storeys; 11 X 6 windows. Windows have segmental heads. South end has 2 adjoining blocks, 3 storeys. At each end, 2 cast-iron glazing bar windows on each floor. East end has the lower left window replaced by a double door with glazing bar overlight. Rear has plain sashes, with a door to left. To north, 2 single storey ranges. West range has small buttresses and 2 plain sashes. To left, a door with overlight. North end has 3 plain sashes. East range has to north a former engine house with 3 cast-iron glazing bar casements. East side has a single window to left and to right, an attached former boiler house with a C20 garage door to left under a wooden lintel. To right, a C20 6-light casement and below it, a board door. INTERIOR has 2 double ranks of pestle and mortar snuff mills and rotating drum sieving and mixing machinery, c1880. This machinery is complete and in use.
