Description
Westbrook Snuff Mill is a snuff mill that has been converted into offices. It was built around 1833 and has 19th and 20th-century additions. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and features slate roofs with various stacks.
The exterior is three storeys high and consists of ten bays. The north front has a slightly projecting center with two small sash windows on the upper floors, topped with a pediment. The ground floor is covered by a 20th-century addition. To the left, there are two bays, each with two sash windows on the upper floors and a single sash window on the ground floor. Further left, there is a single bay addition with large iron-framed windows on each floor. Beyond this is a truncated engine stack, followed by a lean-to addition with a glazing bar casement.
On the south front, there is a projecting hipped wing on the right side with three bays. To the left, there is a three-light casement window, and above it, three similar casements. On the ground floor, there is a three-light casement to the left and two tall windows to the right. The side elevation features a single casement on the upper floors and below it, a pair of three-light casements. To the west, there is a two-storey range with three windows, a pair of double doors below, a three-light window to the right, and two similar windows to the left. Further left is a three-storey range with three windows on each floor, which has bands and a parapet with gables. The right corner features a tall 20th-century brick elevator shaft.
Inside, the ground floor contains a series of built-in mortars and pestles used for snuff grinding. The first floor has an oven room with a barrel vaulted roof and a top flue damper control.
