Description
The Old Chapel at General Cemetery is a cemetery chapel built around 1836, likely designed by Samuel Worth. It is constructed of ashlar and features a classical style. The building has a plinth and an eaves cornice. The entrance front is notable for its tetrastyle Greek Doric portico, which includes a full entablature and a pediment. Beneath the portico, there is a central blocked doorway with an Egyptian surround, flanked by single round-headed niches, one of which contains an urn. Above the doorway is a panel featuring a dove in relief. The chapel has single corner pilasters and each side has four blocked windows with Egyptian surrounds. The rear of the building is rusticated and blank. The interior was not inspected, and the building was vacant at the time of the survey.
