Description
The boundary wall and railing at Carter Knowle Junior School, built in 1906 by Holmes & Watson for the Sheffield School Board, is a notable structure. It features coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and wrought-iron railing. The wall has a square plan, with the Carter Knowle Road side displaying eight square stone piers that have chamfered caps, connected by a plinth with chamfered coping and spiked railing. There are four gate piers with moulded caps and two pairs of wrought-iron gates. The Bannerdale Road side mirrors this design with similar piers and railing, but has rounded corners. The other sides consist of a solid stone wall topped with gabled stone coping. This wall and railing serve as an ancillary structure to Carter Knowle Junior School and are included for their group value.
