Description

The boundary walls, railings, and gates for Lowfield Junior and Infant Schools were built in 1874, likely designed by Innocent & Brown for the Sheffield School Board. The walls are made of coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and feature wrought-iron gates. Along the London Road side, there is a spiked railing with a chamfered plinth that is approximately 75 meters long, including two small gateways with stone piers topped with chamfered copings. To the right, there is a wall with chamfered coping and an opening without piers. On the Queen's Road side, there is a similar railing, about 50 meters long, with a gateway to the right that has a large gabled pier. To the left, there is another wall with chamfered coping. The walls meet at an acute angled rounded corner that includes a single-storey toilet block, which is an ancillary building to the schools. This structure is included for its group value.
