Description
Moorfield Nursing Home, originally known as Commonside Hostel, is a house that has been converted into a nursing home. It was built around 1840 and has undergone early and mid-20th century additions and alterations. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and features a hipped and gabled slate roof with two brick ridge stacks. Architectural details include a plinth, quoins, a first floor band, and dentilled eaves. The windows are an unusual type of plain sashes with multi-keystone lintels. The structure is two storeys high and has a three-window range. A central Doric portico with a cornice and scrolled pediment is flanked by single windows. On the left side, there is a mid-19th century two-storey addition with two windows, along with a full-width glazed lean-to addition. The right side features a two-storey canted bay window. The interior has not been inspected.
